WHY UQPN?
I decided to get involved in UQPN because I am passionate about building positive and inclusive communities, and love being a part of one! Through my current role, I have a lot of experience in community building for the student community and I wanted to expand this to the staff community- my colleagues here at UQ. I am grateful for UQPN because it facilitates connection across the institution and opportunities for learning and development.
EXPERIENCE
I have been at UQ for 6 years and I am currently working in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences as a Student Experience Coordinator. I love the variety and creativity that my role allows, and I especially enjoy working in partnership with students to improve their experience at UQ. I am also a student at UQ – I started studying my Master of Educational Studies this year (part-time) and I am majoring in Leadership as well as Guidance, Counselling and Careers.
My professional background is quite varied. I grew up in the south of England and studied Psychology and Criminology at the University of Southampton. After graduation, I moved to Asia to teach English as a second language where my intended stay of 6 months became 6 years! I enjoyed supporting students of all ages but particularly enjoyed working in higher education. For this reason, after immigrating to Australia in 2017, I decided to join UQ, where I have been since.
Personally, I am a curious person who loves to learn new things. In addition to studying my master's degree, I am learning Spanish with the goal of becoming fluent one day! I am a very active person and I enjoy jogging, working out at the gym with my friends, and walking my dog (albeit very slowly). On that note, I love animals- especially dogs.
